The Leadership Program at Hillcrest 2016-17
The Leadership Program at Hillcrest provides diverse and enriching leadership learning opportunities for our students to foster and develop key qualities and skills as leaders in our community. The opportunities provided will range in size but students should expect to do some significant planning towards their event on a weekly basis. In addition, students are required to perform voluntary service activities as part of their commitment to playing a leadership role in our community.
So Far this year….
We had a very successful kick off to the year at Leadership Camp and have continued to help enhance our school's culture through the many fundraising events, intramural sports, class challenges, assemblies, and activities. Leadership students play a key role in planning and running many of these events. A sample of those events include: Bake Sales, Waffle breakfasts, Terry Fox Run, Remembrance Day Assembly, Class Challenges, the "Coats for Kids" campaign and “Reading Buddies” at Elmwood Elementary School.
Community Volunteering this Term:
Our Grade 9 Leadership Class: volunteered at the Edmonton Food Bank. Students organized community food donations and prepared the items for delivery to families in need. Leadership 9 is currently providing a “Reading Buddies” program for the grade two students at Elmwood School.
Our Grade 8 Leadership class: volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House at the Stollery Hospital.
Both student leadership groups gained a strong personal understanding of the important role volunteers play in helping others in our city.
A Great Start to “leading in the Community” ....Nice Work Mustangs!!
